Inspired by Embassy of Switzerland, the world's first solar powered vehicle set off on a world tour from Switzerland and it will arrive in Shanghai on May 9, 2008. The tour’s mission was to spread knowledge about the dangers of global warming and to demonstrate to the world that solutions are available to combat global warming.
The solar powered vehicle has drawn close attention from the local government of every city it arrived.
Around the world with the sun – around the world with a solar vehicle. Adventurer and travel editor Louis Palmer has an ambitious plan to travel around the world in a solar-powered vehicle – the solar taxi. After setting off from Lucerne on July 3 2007, his journey round the world has now reached half way and will take at least 8 more months to go. He is travelling through all kinds of different countries, meeting new and interesting people and, some of the time, taking passengers with him. The aim of Palmer's project is to show that solutions to combat global warming are available. He is now crossing the Far East with starting point in Singapore, and he is going to arrive in Bangkok on 9. April.

Initiator & Tour Director & Driver : Louis Palmer
Louis Palmer, born in Budapest, moved to Switzerland when he was only 16 months old. After his teacher training, he went travelling, always on the move to new horizons: He crossed Africa by bike and the United States and South America by ultra-light airplane. The Solar taxi is his latest project.
Mission Statement by Louis Palmer:
“On 3 July 2007 I set off on my first journey around the world with a solar powered vehicle. Admittedly, as a regular citizen I cannot change the world but I can demonstrate to the world just how dire the global climate situation has become and how many sophisticated solutions to lower the greenhouse gases already exist, which bring with them many other advantages. So that we can have a better world and a more secure future. The solar taxi should rekindle hope and a zest for life, set an example to counteract resignation and stimulate reflection. And show that every single one of us can take a step towards preserving our planet.”
